He will lead the construction of the first data center in Talavera de la Reina.

April 2025 - Substrate AI has appointed Mani Masshafi as CEO of its Data Center Division, driving the company’s infrastructure strategy and the construction of its first AI-focused data center in Talavera de la Reina, Spain.

With over a decade of experience in cloud infrastructure, software, artificial intelligence, and enterprise technology strategy, Mani has held senior roles at global tech firms such as Oracle and NexGen Cloud. At NexGen Cloud, he played a pivotal role in scaling the company from Seed to Series A, contributing to its $345 million valuation through strategic go-to-market execution, enterprise traction, and global partnerships. He helped drive growth across sales, alliances, and product positioning, working with partners like NVIDIA & Dell amongst many others.

Previously, at Oracle, he served as Global Lead Account Manager, advising key enterprise clients on multicloud strategy and leading digital transformation initiatives. Well-versed in the hyperscaler ecosystem and deeply connected in both global and European tech markets, Mani brings strong international reach with a sharp focus on building sovereign infrastructure within Europe.

“I am committed to building partnerships and a team to drive Substrate AI’s data center and infrastructure strategy — all focused on creating independent AI in Europe, supporting projects from Spanish and European companies with sovereign infrastructure, while building a European AI ecosystem that can compete globally," said Mani Masshafi, CEO of Substrate AI's Data Center Division.

“With Mani joining the team, we strengthen our capabilities at a crucial moment," added José Iván García, CEO of Substrate AI. "His leadership will help us maximize our investment in infrastructure, which, combined with our AI software Serenity Star, will establish Substrate AI as one of Europe’s most complete AI companies, offering edge computing and AI agents tailored to business needs, at a time when trust and security in AI are more important than ever.”

Substrate AI has a commitment to invest 79 million in its Talavera de la Reina AI data center, supported by a €20 million grant from the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha. The construction and launch will create at least 50 direct jobs and over 200 indirect ones. The company is also developing a startup accelerator adjacent to the facility, primarily focused on the healthcare sector — a field where AI has enormous potential and demands high-performance computing capabilities to train efficient models.

Substrate AI, listed on BME Growth, is a holding company focused on applying AI across sectors to drive sustainable growth and efficiency. The Talavera de la Reina project — which includes a state-of-the-art AI data center and an adjacent startup accelerator — lays the foundation for the future of AI in Europe.
