April 2025. Substrate AI, the artificial intelligence company listed on BME Growth, has reached an agreement with the American technology company Network Environments to participate in the development of its first data center in Talavera de la Reina, which will become a pioneering AI factory in its field.

Network Environments, founded by the former Director of Data Center Development at Microsoft for the Americas, is a leader in turnkey modular data center and infrastructure solutions with its sister company, GRA, offering a solution enabling faster, scalable, and sustainable construction. With these solutions, Network Environments and GRA provide the critical base of physical infrastructure using a productized and prefabricated approach, delivering modules specifically designed for high performance, security, and energy efficiency—essential components for sovereign cloud environments that require local control and data residency.

The proven methodology of Network Environments and GRA significantly accelerates deployment times compared to traditional construction, allowing partners like Substrate AI and their customers to gain faster access to cutting-edge computing capabilities. This modular, factory-built process ensures consistent quality control, reduces onsite construction waste, and offers predictable costs and timelines—key advantages for complex, international projects.

“Our modular and prefabricated data center solutions are specifically designed for these types of high-demand deployments,”said Joe Ryan, its founder. "By standardizing and productizing the core infrastructure, we provide a highly reliable, efficient and, most importantly, scalable foundation. What we are deploying in Spain together with Substrate AI is a model of how sovereign cloud infrastructure capability can be established quickly and sustainably anywhere in the EMEA region and beyond."

“With this agreement, we further boost our strategy of small, scalable, and fully sustainable data centers—a strategy we believe is essential for Europe to have the sovereign AI capabilities it needs to build its AI solutions autonomously, without dependence on the United States and in line with the green transition,” said Mani Masshafi, CEO of Substrate AI's Data Center Division.

The inherent scalability of the Network Environments and GRA approach allows for phased construction and predictable expansions, aligning infrastructure growth directly with computing demand. This model not only supports the immediate needs of Substrate AI’s data center project but, together with innovations from Orbital Materials, establishes a replicable framework for future deployments of fully sustainable sovereign clouds globally.

Substrate AI, listed on BME Growth since May 2022, operates as a holding company for firms that apply artificial intelligence to drive efficiency and accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable economy. The alliances with Network Environments and Orbital Materials are part of its ambitious strategy to deploy advanced computing infrastructures in Spain, with Talavera de la Reina as the first major milestone.
